Paddy Mills

This is the work of Paddy Mills. Again i found him on the web through a graphic design article. I really like the way his work has a clean feel to it with smooth edges and block colour filling the vectored images. his use of type interested me aswell. he uses type with image effectively, this is something i want to develop as i find it hard to put the two together and have it look like effective design instead of out of place.

No Days Off

Again i worked closely with Patrick Duffy, who is a part of No Days Off , on my placement over the summer. Aswell as the graphic i was dealing with it motivated me to look further into their work and also what they are all about. Just like Anthouny Burrill, their style is clean and simple, with bold text and block colour, which is a style i enjoy to incorporate into my work, but even though i use it in my work at the moment, i feel i am not using it to its full capabilities and i need to develop my skill and knowledge of when, where and how i should use simple design so that it can be most effective.

No Days off pride themselves in the eco-friendly approach when they design. i found this when i was dealing with their prints and they are all printed on 100% recycled paper. Investigating this further i found that on their website they have a section dedicated to explaining their green approach to design.

Because i cannot drag and drop the statement form their website, and typing it out would take a while, her is a link to their site so you can take a look. it is worth a read, and it gives you an insight to their design practice and ethics within graphic design itself as well within the general environment.

As well as their work i have have taken influence in their practice and design from their website itself. The clean simple layout is one i want to develop into my own website in the near future.

Welcome Back

Reflection

Over the summer i feel my knowledge of graphic design has expanded alot, to a place where i am no longer looking at the generic design you find when you type "graphic design" into google, design that doesn't necessarily relate to my interest and practice, but design i can relate to my practice, design that inspires me and design i wish to produce in the future. I feel this is a big step into the third year, and i am in a place where i feel comfortable about my researching abilities within graphic design aswell as the design process.

This research ad investigation into contemporary design practice will be on going, not only throughout the third year but way into my future. Development and renewal on design i see in the present times is key to keep my head fresh and "in the know" so that my design can be as up to date as possible.
